- The all-rounder
Nickel coatings offer excellent corrosion protection in addition to good wear resistance, solderability, weldability, polishability, and ductility. Galvanised nickel is magnetic and provides an ideal coating for many applications. In the case of electronic components, nickel is often plated directly onto non-ferrous metals and then re-plated with nickel, gold, or silver. Decorative articles are often subsequently chrome plated. For ferrous materials, pre-copper plating is carried out in advance.
This often results in coatings that are composed of 3 successive electrodeposited layers. Direct skin contact can trigger a nickel allergy.
